Reaching the Invisible: AIM Foundation’s Support for Migrant and Homeless Populations.
In Kolkata’s fast-changing urban landscape, migrant workers and homeless families often live in the shadows — cut off from healthcare, education, and basic dignity. AIM Foundation shines a light on these invisible communities through targeted support programs aimed at restoring stability and hope.

During the COVID-19 lockdowns, thousands of migrants lost their jobs and homes. AIM launched immediate relief operations, distributing cooked meals, dry ration kits, masks, and hygiene supplies across the city. Since then, their outreach has only expanded.

Mobile health units now serve under-flyover encampments and pavement dwellings, offering free checkups, medicines, and health education. AIM’s social workers help migrants and homeless individuals obtain essential identity documents like Aadhaar and voter cards — the key to accessing government schemes and public services.

For children in these communities, AIM runs evening learning centers and mobile classrooms. These are safe, interactive spaces where children learn basic literacy, math, and life skills. Many go on to join mainstream schools with AIM’s support.

One of the foundation’s most innovative efforts is its transitional shelter model. Temporary shelters offer families a place to live while they stabilize their livelihoods and access legal aid, job placement services, and counseling.

Importantly, AIM’s outreach isn’t limited to aid. Regular community meetings and focus groups ensure that solutions are shaped by the people they serve — respecting their dignity and involving them in decision-making.

In helping the homeless and migrant workers reclaim their rights and rebuild their lives, AIM Foundation is sending a powerful message: every life matters, and no one should be left behind.
